Bishop Sutton Patio

The client wanted to replace an old and slightly uneven precast concrete patio with a new level patio made using top quality materials.

The large patio area exceeding 80sq metres had problems with drainage due to a high level of clay in the soil. It was decided that a patio would be laid with wide open joints filled with decorative gravel. This would open the space up further and allow the water to drain through effectively.

Where the patio met the higher level lawn area, a curved seating area was planned with oak timber and curved steps leading up to the lawn. We installed ground lighting below the seating to illuminate the Blue Lias stone work.

We removed the decorative Well timbers and roofing and dropped the structure to seating height, we also installed lighting so the well lit up the garden in the evening.

To add a focus point and a feature onto the patio area a firepit was built. This fire pit also doubled up as a BBQ area, seating area, tabletop and even a footrest and was build from reclaimed oak sleepers, Victorian bricks and fire-bricks. The lid was made from a piece of smooth Brazilian slate.
